Dominican Republic
2022When this tour was planned, no one could have known that we would arrive in the Dominican Republic just two days after Hurricane Fiona. It was the first hurricane to hit the country directly since Jeanne in 2004. We knew the tour would be heavily affected, and that the last thing on anyone’s mind would be going to the theatre.
But our long-time partner in the Dominican Republic, César, is a different creature. Any other promoter would have cancelled the tour. Not him.
He is one of the most special theatre and event promoters we know. He knows everybody, and everybody knows him. After years of experience, his service is on another level.
He picked us up in person from the restricted area of the airport — right at the aircraft door. He arranged an interview on one of the most watched television programmes, El Show del Mediodía — an experience in itself. He secured the presidential suite at the Sheraton for our company during the stay. And of course we visited one of the beautiful beaches, as we always do with this exceptional promoter — this time Playa Juan Dolio, near Santo Domingo.
All of this while knowing he would lose a good deal of money, because attendance would be hit hard by the disaster. He did it with a lightness, as if nothing had happened. It is always so intense that we can barely get a group photograph. Something is constantly happening.
If every promoter were like César, everyone would want to be an artist.
